International festival Northern Character invites to the media forum

Nov 25, 2016

The theme of the meeting: Is there a crisis in modern journalism? Time: November 26, from 10:00 to 12:00.. Admission is free, registration is not required.

The debate will be led by the famous Russian TV journalist Valery Gamza. The theme of the forum focuses on the topical issue faced by journalists both in the East and the West.

While the media space is increasingly controlled by the state and political power structures in Russia in many of the major media in the West they are reducing staff and the economic situation is getting worse. Many journalists prefer to say goodbye to the profession and go to public press-services of private companies and organizations where their main task is not to reveal but rather to veil the information.

What are the implications of these changes in independent and critical journalism? Will journalists of various media be able to counter the situation  when big politics are trying to put pressure on media and journalists stronger than ever before and the propaganda machine is again powered? Do journalists with a high level of consciousness who advocate the highest ethical standards have power to protect the independence, integrity and freedom of speech in our time?
